Service Groups

We love to serve as a church family!

Find opportunities to get involved serving with our church community below.

Men’s Shelter Coalition

Christ Lutheran has served as a host site for the Men’s Homeless Coalition over the summer months. Volunteers help staff our shelter site from April 15th to October 15th. During the winter months, Christ Lutheran members have been involved in providing meals at other host sites. The Men’s Homeless Coalition has a relationship with the New Creation Men’s Shelter in Valparaiso.

Lutheran World Relief Quilters

"Quilters and apprentice-quilters gather regularly on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m.-noon to assemble and tie quilts in the Church Hall. At 10:00 a.m., the Quilters take a short “break” for prayer and devotions. In addition to CLC quilters, several come from Immanuel (LCMS) in Valparaiso and several other area churches. Sewing experience is not necessary to help tie the quilts!"

LWR Baby Care Kits, Fabric Care Kits and Personal Care Kits

Congregation volunteers work on making and assembling Baby, Fabric and Personal Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief. Throughout the year items are collected in the Gathering Place, made or bought to enable this group to make as many kits as possible.

Lutheran Braille Workers

Lutheran Braille Workers was started in 1943 by Helene Koehler when she responded to an ad in the Lutheran Witness magazine from a blind college student, in Germany, studying ministry.  Through the mail, along with her dedication and strong faith, she became a self-taught transcriber. One person can make a difference in many lives!  LBW is the largest Christian organization that functions through donations and provides braille and large print reading materials free to the recipients.  Our Work Center produces 40 volumes of Judges & Ruth, 18 volumes of Exodus and 20 volumes of Mark per month – mailed to the USA and across the world.  A complete Bible is 4 ½ feet tall!

We work on Tuesdays 8:15 to 11:15 a.m. and 11: 45 to 2:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall during the summer and fall seasons.

There are sitting and standing jobs to do.  It is not hard work.  Come when you can and stay for however long you would like.  You do not need to know braille.  Paige Reichardt is the facilitator of the group.

Meals Ministry

Many gracious volunteers prepare and deliver meals as needed to those recovering from illness, surgery or the birth of a child. When called upon, our Funeral Ministry volunteers direct and serve funeral luncheons on behalf of bereaved families.
